The 1912 fire was started on a Saturday morning when spinning machinery caught fire.
Workers with buckets of water fought the fire but had to withdraw when one route out became blocked. The fire brigade at Great Harwood refused to attend as it was outside their area, although the Superintendent did arrive and assisted in fighting the fire.
The Padiham brigade arrived at 8.40am, too late to be really effective but they did what they could. At 10.45 am the mill owners own fire team (based at Church) arrived and by noon the fire was out.
What was left was a skeleton of the former mill with only stone walls and twisted metal remaining. Damage was estimated at over £10,000.
