The road to Stubbins lodge was a main route up Sabden valley and runs parallel to Sabden Brook for much of its route.
Past the lodges is a landscape formed of isolated farms and abandoned barns and is little changed over the centuries.
The riverside walk eventually leads to the hamlet of Sabden Fold. Going back 200 years if you had asked for directions to Sabden this is probably where you would have been directed as Sabden village was yet to be created.
